NHL player update: New York Rangers recall goaltender Dylan Garand from Hartford Wolf Pack as injury concern grows

The New York Rangers have recalled goaltending prospect Dyland Garand from the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, amidst injury concerns mounting around the club. The decision came with both Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick reportedly a little banged up, prompting the team to add a valuable player ahead of a busy stretch in the schedule.

Rangers president and GM Chris Drury confirmed Garand’s recall on Friday, while Callum Tung was reassigned to Hartford from ECHL Bloomington in a corresponding move. As per reports, with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL this season, Garand has posted a 16-15-2 record, .896 save percentage, and 2.83 goals against average. In addition to this, the 23-year-old has led Canada to a gold medal at the 2022 World Juniors with a perfect 6-0-0 record and has yet to make his NHL debut.

Dylan Garand has pushed himself into the New York Rangers' picture as injuries and wear-and-tear continue to hit the team. The club had to make this decision considering Igor Shesterkin's health, and Garand's addition would certainly help the team with a goaltender.

This was announced on Friday by Rangers president and GM Chris Drury that Garand has been recalled on Friday, while Callum Tung was reassigned to Hartford from the ECHL's Bloomington in a corresponding move.

As per reports, Shesterkin’s lower-body injury in early January forced him out of a game against the Utah Mammoth. Shesterkin was ruled out of the game after the first period due to injury. Following his exit, the Rangers opted to call up Spencer Martin instead of Garand in the wake of Igor Shesterkin’s time on injured reserve, when he missed a total of 13 games.



Dylan Garand will now add meaning to the goaltending situation of the New York Rangers. Last season looked sharper for him, as he scored 20-10-8 with a .913 save percentage.

However, reports suggest that his AHL season has been uneven, but the bigger story is that he has stayed in the fight. Reports suggest that with the Hartford Wolf Pack, Garand has posted a 16-15-2 record, .896 save percentage, and 2.83 goals against average this season. As the New York Rangers will lock horns with the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday at Madison Square Garden, New York, it will be interesting to see if Dyland Garand will make his appearance with the Rangers.
