NHL selects Boston Bruins forward Fraser Minten as Rookie of the Month for January after Jeremy Swayman

Boston Bruins forward Fraser Minten has been named the Rookie of the Month for January. As per reports, he became the first Boston player to be selected as the NHL's Rookie of the Month since Jeremy Swayman in March 2022. It is to be noted that the Toronto Maple Leafs traded away the forward Fraser Minten in 2025.

As reported by the NHL, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced on March 7 that the team has acquired forward Fraser Minten, a 2026 first-round draft pick (top five protected), and a 2025 fourth-round draft pick (from Philadelphia) from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for defenseman Brandon Carlo, retaining 15 percent of Carlo’s salary.

Earlier, Minten appeared in 15 games with Toronto, scoring approximately two goals and two assists for a total of four points. Minten has also played in 26 games with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) this season, tallying six goals and seven assists for 13 points.

Boston Bruins forward Fraser Minten was announced as the Rookie of the Month for January, as confirmed by the National Hockey League on February 1, 2026. He became the first Boston player to be selected as the NHL's Rookie of the Month since Jeremy Swayman in March 2022.

According to the NHL, Minten is currently leading all rookie skaters in plus-minus this season (+20), ranking second on Boston’s roster and 20th overall in the NHL. Among rookies, he ranks sixth in scoring with 29 points and fourth in goals (14).

The 20-year-old forward was acquired by the Bruins from the Leafs on last season's trade deadline in exchange for Brandon Carlo, a 2026 first-round pick (top five protected) and a 2025 fourth-round pick (from Philadelphia). As per the data shared by NHL, he has appeared in 63 games with Boston this season, recording one goal and eight assists for nine points.

The 6-foot-5, 221-pound defenseman has appeared in 617 career NHL games, all with the Bruins, totaling 29 goals and 80 assists for 109 points. He was also originally selected by Boston in the second round (37th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

In 2026, the forward averaged one point per game with four multi-point performances and opened the month with a two-goal showing in Boston's 3-2 victory in Vancouver on Jan. 3, including the game-winner in overtime.

Moreover, he added a three-point game (2G, 1A) in the team's 10-2 win over the New York Rangers held at TD Garden on January 10, 2026. In addition to this, Minten managed to close out the month with a three-point performance on January 29 against Philadelphia, becoming the first Bruins rookie to produce multiple three‑point games in a calendar month since 2018 (Jake DeBrusk).
