Considering this season’s NHL standings, the Toronto Maple Leafs cannot qualify for the top 10 and currently sit in the 14th place. They have scored 32-30-13 and 77 points so far in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube addressed growing concerns about the team's culture following recent comments from MLSE President and CEO Keith Pelley, as the organization continues to evaluate major changes after a disappointing season.

Speaking after practice, Berube downplayed the idea that the team's struggles were solely due to a cultural problem; instead, he stressed that the responsibility lies across the entire organization, players, coaches, and goaltending, and that the team needs to function more as a unit. He also emphasized that the Maple Leafs still have foundational players capable of contending but need better overall support and team play.


Along with this, Berube also addressed his own uncertain future after Pelley indicated a major reset within the organization. The Leafs coach further stated that he is focused on coaching the team and preparing for games rather than worrying about his job status, stating that those decisions are out of his control.

Berube added, “I am focused on coaching the team, honestly. Tomorrow, we have a game. That is what I’m doing. I can’t control that. Whatever happens, happens. I am the coach here now. My focus is on the team. That’s it.”

Amid the growing uncertainty, the coach highlighted the need for team-wide support around foundational players, stressing, "They need support. The team needs to play as a unit and a team. It is not just all on them. That’s everybody, goalie, coaches. That is what makes it go."

With the Maple Leafs entering a critical offseason with a new general manager and potential coaching decisions, Berube’s future and the team’s roster will likely be determined by the new team.
