The US team's general manager, Bill Guerin, has expressed his willingness to welcome President Donald Trump's visit to the 4 Nations Face-Off hockey tournament championship game between the US and Canada. Guerin, who has played in the NHL for eight teams, believes Trump's presence will boost the rivalry between the North American hockey powers, citing Trump's tariff threats and talk of making Canada the 51st US state.

Bill Guerin expressed his desire for President Donald Trump to attend the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game between the U.S. and Canada at TD Garden in Boston, following FOX News host Bill Hemmer's suggestion that Trump should attend the game.

"We would love it if President Trump was in attendance," Guerin said in the interview broadcast Monday. "We have a room full of proud American players and coaches and staff. Listen, we're just trying to represent our country the best way we can."


The tournament marks the return of top hockey stars to international play after their absence from the past two Olympics. The United States defeated Canada 3-1 in a thrilling game that began with three fights in the first nine seconds, drawing comparisons to the Americans' "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics.

Bill Guerin inquired about the impact of the Canadian crowd's booing of the U.S. national anthem on the intense first game and Team USA's performance, a direct result of Trump's tariff threats and suggestions of Canada becoming America's 51st state.

"I think a little bit of everything," Guerin said. "Canada-U.S. is a huge rivalry in hockey. I think there was a little bit of a political flare to it; it's just the time that we're in. And then I think our guys used that as inspiration. If you let it get the better of you, then you're in trouble. But I really do think the players used it as inspiration."
