Vancouver Canucks planning to trade Kiefer Sherwood using similar method to deal with Quinn Hughes
The Vancouver Canucks will be trading away left winger Kiefer Sherwood eventually. With the likelihood of him being dealt, it appears that the Canucks have a particular strategy in moving the left winger. Reports suggest that the way Vancouver dealt superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, the Canucks' management is reportedly working with the player's agent, Pat Brisson, to get a deal done.
Ever since Kiefer Sherwood signed a 2-year, $3 million contract (AAV $1.5M) with the Vancouver Canucks, which expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, the star power forward has made more of an impact than any other player on the roster, which is why his name keeps appearing on the trade list.
This is not the first time his name has appeared on the trade list, as he was considered for the Dallas Stars in place of Seguin. Earlier, an NHL analyst recommended that the Vancouver Canucks’ forward Kiefer Sherwood be considered as a trade target for the Dallas Stars.
As the Vancouver Canucks are still struggling to register their first victory in 2026, they're winless in their last 10 outings. With that, it's clear that they will be sellers leading up to the March 6 trade deadline. The next prime trade candidate on the Canucks roster is Kiefer Sherwood, and it appears the team has a particular strategy in moving the left winger, as reported by TSN.
Sherwood's potential move has become one of the most-talked-about possible trades ahead of the March 6 deadline, with league insiders confirming that the two teams are currently in talks to trade Sherwood.
On Sportsnet's 'Saturday Headlines' segment, Elliotte Friedman said that the Canucks are going with a similar approach in looking for a suitable partner for Sherwood. He stated, "One of the things that happened with the Quinn Hughes deal was that the Canucks allowed the agent to work with them to get the trade done, and that's absolutely one of the reasons it got done as quickly as it did. The same thing is now happening for Sherwood," Kiefer said on the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.
It is important to note that Sherwood has drawn the interest of several teams around the NHL. He is a pending UFA and comes at a cheap cost, earning $1.5 million against the salary cap. Also, Sherwood's been on a tear this season, scoring 16 goals and 20 points in 36 games. He's averaging 17:29 of ice-time per game, including in all situations, and he's landed a whopping 164 hits, almost 100 more than any of his teammates.
