Vince Dunn sparks Seattle Kraken win against New York Islanders at Climate Pledge Arena
It was a tough stretch, but the Seattle Kraken finally put an end to it, most decidedly in a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night at Climate Pledge Arena, with help from a very well-rounded game from Vince Dunn. Vince Dunn rattled home one of the big goals of the night and added an assist as Seattle got its mojo back.
Seattle Kraken came in having lost four straight and six of their last seven, so the response against a team that is still fighting for a playoff position was all the more important here. The Kraken have made one of their most complete efforts in a long time with some excellent scoring, great special teams play that got off to a rusty start, and the goaltending of Philipp Grubauer.
Seattle, however, was quick to react. Even being penalized seven times, resulting in penalties, the Kraken were able to pick themselves up after the opening goal and prevent the Islanders from scoring on the remaining power plays. This was the catalyst that allowed Seattle to stay in the fight.
The second period was decisive. Dunn put the Kraken ahead with a perfectly placed wrist shot from theslot, completing an efficient passing play that cut sharply through the Rangers' defensive structure. Shortly thereafter, Kaapo Kakko stretched the lead by capitalizing on an aggressive forecheck that yielded possession of the puck in a battle behind the Islanders' goal.
During the third period, the Kraken concentrated on playing game management. Grubauer remained calm, pulling 24 shots on goal without allowing any Islanders' pressure. Furthermore, a timely empty-netter goal by Jared McCann secured victory for the Kraken, having also posted an assist during the match.
This win carried added significance for head coach Lane Lambert, who defeated his former team for the first time since his dismissal by the Islanders last season. More importantly for Seattle, the victory pushed the Kraken back into the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference based on regulation wins.

Seattle Kraken snap losing streak with solid team efforts and great second period
The Isles struck first and looked to dictate play early on in this one. Anthony Duclair extended his point streak to eight games to start the period by capitalizing on a power play chance when he blasted a one-timer from the left circle to beat Grubauer cleanly less than three minutes in to give his team momentum.Seattle, however, was quick to react.
