Shreyas Iyer puts down trophy on the floor; Rohit Sharma's priceless act goes viral - watch
Former India captain Rohit Sharma made his first public appearance since being replaced as ODI skipper, attending the 27th CEAT Cricket Rating Awards in Mumbai last week.
Looking noticeably leaner and fitter, Rohit drew attention for more than just his physical transformation. In particular, his thoughtful act during the ceremony has now gone viral.

Seated beside ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, Rohit appeared relaxed, chatting with his wife through the evening.
Iyer had earlier gone on stage to collect the CEAT JioStar Award but, after returning to his seat, placed the memento on the floor beside him instead of holding it or setting it on a table.
Moments later, Rohit noticed the trophy near Iyer’s feet. Without making a fuss, the 38-year-old quietly picked it up and placed it on a nearby table in a gesture that has since drawn wide praise on social media. Fans lauded Rohit for his respect toward awards and achievements, calling it a small but telling sign of his humility and leadership.

The event also marked Rohit’s first public outing since Shubman Gill took over the ODI captaincy. Yet, the veteran opener looked far from a man stepping away from the spotlight. Having led India to back-to-back ICC titles, clinching the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, Rohit’s renewed fitness and energy sent a strong message that he remains hungry for more.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Rohit said his focus remains firmly on cricket, particularly the upcoming ODI series against Australia starting October 19. “I love playing against them. I love going to Australia. It's a very challenging country to play cricket. People there love the game as well,” he said.
He added, “Australia is a different challenge every time they have played against us. Having been there now several times, I do understand what to expect. Hopefully we can go there and do what the Indian team is supposed to do and get the result in our favour.”
Even without the captain’s badge, Rohit’s calm composure and instinctive respect at the event reflected why he remains one of Indian cricket’s most admired figures.
