NEW DELHI: Philippines-born Nesthy Petecio delivered a dominant performance, knocking out India's Jaismine Lamboria in the women's 57 kg round of 32 match on Tuesday.
The bout didn't start favourably for Jaismine , as she found herself trailing at the end of the first round. Four out of five judges awarded ten points to Petecio, indicating her early dominance.
In the second round, Petecio continued to impose her authority over the Indian boxer, looking at ease throughout and securing ten points from all five judges.
Jaismine needed a remarkable comeback in the third and final round to turn the bout in her favour. However, the comeback never materialized, and she ultimately lost the match by a unanimous 0:5 decision on points.
Earlier on Tuesday, Amit Panghal, another Indian boxer, crashed out of the Paris Olympics following a loss in the round of 16 phase of the men's 51 kg category.
Amit lost to Zambia's Patrick Chinyemba by a narrow margin of 1-4. In the initial rounds, both boxers traded punches aggressively, but in the third round, the judges ruled entirely in favour of the Zambian boxer, who won by a split decision of 1-4.
India fielded a squad of six boxers to compete for podium finishes at the Paris 2024 Olympics boxing tournament. Among them, Nikhat Zareen has already powered her way into the women's 50kg pre-quarterfinals with a thrilling display of skill and determination.
