Novak Djokovic court case updates: Djokovic leaves Australia

Novak Djokovic's hopes of playing at the Australian Open were dashed Sunday after a court dismissed the top-ranked tennis star's appeal against a deportation order. Three Federal Court judges upheld a decision made on Friday by the immigration minister to cancel the 34-year-old Serb's visa on public interest grounds. The decision likely means that Djokovic, who is not vaccinated against COVID-19, will remain in detention in Melbourne until he is deported. A deportation order usually also includes a three-year ban on returning to Australia. Stay updated with Times of India to get all the live updates of Novak Djokovic visa row in Australia.

UPDATE: So as we wait to hear who the Court is going to rule in favour of, here's what the two parties have said in a nutshell to support their cases:
1. Djokovic's lawyers have said the decision to cancel his visa for a second time was an 'irrational' decision. That Australian Govt considered the possibility of his presence in Australia exciting the anti-vaccination sentiment, but failed to consider what would happen to that sentiment if he was deported. 2. The Australian Govt has made it clear that they did in fact take into account the impact Djokovic's deportation would have on the anti-vaccination activists in the country. According to them his presence in the country would be a risk. According to the Govt his current views and actions have made him an 'icon' of the anti-vaccination movement, adding that 'Australia must not be bound to suffer the presence of an alien for fear of what might happen if they were removed'

We would hope to be in a position to identify to the parties later in the afternoon what the course is that we propose
