Fenesta Open Tennis: Top seeds have it easy on opening day

NEW DELHI: It was a day of routine action at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championships which got off the blocks at the RK Khanna National Stadium on Monday. The top seeds eased into the second round with convincing wins.
Top seed Jeevan Nedunchezhiy handed a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Vijay Kannan while second seed VM Ranjeet also made it to the second round after his opponent Rajat Maheshwari retired when the former champion had pocketed the first set 6-0.
Last year's semifinalist Mohit Mayur Jayprakash steamrolled eighth seed Chandril Sood in straight sets to make his way into the next round too.
The Tamil Nadu player emerged victorious with a score of 6-2, 7-5. There was a minor upset when seventh seed Abhijit Tiwari was knocked out by the unseeded Tejas Chaukalkar 6-3, 6-3.
In the women's singles, Delhi girl Tarranum Handa beat Abhilasha Ahuja 6-2, 6-0. Natasha had it easy against Amrita Mukherjee winning 6-1, 6-3, while Damini was stretched to limit before defeating Manya Nagpal 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
