Monfils dominated the final, defeating Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. This win surpasses Roger Federer's record as the oldest ATP Tour champion, which Federer achieved at the Swiss Indoors in 2019.

This victory marks Monfils' 13th career title, solidifying his place in tennis history. He is now the oldest player to win an ATP final since the Tour's inception in 1990.

After securing the championship point, Monfils celebrated with the crowd, expressing pride in his accomplishment at an age when many players have retired.

"Age is just a number, but I keep working," he said.

Monfils' first ATP Tour title dates back to 2005, showcasing his longevity in the sport.

"I keep believing that I can play high-quality tennis and I've been showing it this week, so I'm very happy."

He spoke about his enduring passion for the game.

"It was 20 years ago, and I still have the passion to play tennis. I still feel like I strike a very good ball, so hopefully many more to come."

Despite the hot conditions in Auckland, Monfils displayed impressive athleticism against Bergs, who was competing in his first ATP final.

Bergs struggled to maintain his serve early in both sets and lacked the power to break Monfils' consistent serve and varied groundstrokes.

This win propels Monfils 11 spots up the world rankings to 41st. He carries this momentum into the Australian Open, where he will face fellow Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the first round.
