Tennis legend
Novak Djokovic made an appearance at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night, where he threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the New York Yankees faced the Boston Red Sox. The 38-year-old Serbian tennis star, who is in New York for the US Open, donned a white sleeve on his right arm for the pitch to Yankees catcher Austin Wells, which reached home plate but hit the dirt before being controlled.
During his visit to the baseball stadium, Djokovic engaged in a memorable exchange with Yankees star
Aaron Judge. The two athletes traded sporting equipment, with Djokovic presenting Judge with a tennis racket while receiving an autographed baseball bat in return. The tennis champion also took photos with Judge, shortstop Anthony Volpe, and catcher Austin Wells while on the diamond.
The appearance at Yankee Stadium comes just days before Djokovic begins his campaign at the US Open, which starts Sunday at the USTA National Tennis Center. He enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed and is scheduled to face Learner Tien in his opening match at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Djokovic's presence at the US Open carries significant weight as he pursues his 25th Grand Slam singles title. His last US Open victory in 2023 was particularly noteworthy as it allowed him to equal Margaret Court's record for the most Grand Slam singles titles.
