The rise of Cody Rhodes over the last two years has been jaw-dropping. Ever since challenging Roman Reigns and returning empty handed in WrestleMania 39, he has worked tirelessly. The fans have loved him spinning a persistent story around the Bloodline challenge and eventually he became the champion in WrestleMania 40, dethroning Roman Reigns.

3. Fans Siding with Him Over WWE’s Biggest Star, The Rock

In the build-up to WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes gave the Rock a chance to confront Roman Reigns's supremacy. This led to a wildfire controversy as the fans were in no mood to entertain this sudden shift in force. Such was the persistence from the WWE Universe that a new storyline saw The Rock turn heel and eventually side with Roman Reigns. In the last decade or so, every time the Brahma Bull has been seen at the Showcase of Immortals, he has been a Babyface, promoting other superstars. When he turned heel ahead of WrestleMania 40, such was Cody’s popularity that the fans roared him to an even louder pop than the most electrifying man in the history of entertainment wrestling.

2. Ending Roman Reigns Historic Title Reign in Memorable Main Event

At WrestleMania 40, when Cody Rhodes took on Roman Reigns, he had already retained the WWE title for 1316 days. This long championship run undoubtedly made him the big bad villain that the fans wanted to see the back of, at least in terms of the championship. It was an intense battle at Philadelphia when the two stalwarts put each other through unrivalled cruelty. The battle also featured the likes of the Rock, John Cena, and The Undertaker, making it one of the most memorable main events of all time. At the end of it all, Roman Reigns succumbed to the American Nightmare, thereby leading to Cody Rhodes drawing curtains on his historic title reign.

1. John Cena's Heel Turn No One Saw Coming

John Cena made his WWE debut in 2002. Since then, John Cena has been a babyface for the last 23 years. There was visible discontent amongst the fans as well, and he would be boring at times. Never did the fans for once conceive that Cena would be turning heel in the last run of his WWE career. It was in 2024 that the leader of Cenation announced that he would be going for one final run. Making his appearance in the Elimination Chamber 2025, while Cody had him in an embrace, on the sign of the Rock, Cena went for a low blow, which was followed by a full-blown onslaught that saw the American Nightmare lying in a pool of his own blood. Such was the intensity of that particular moment that all of Cena’s championship wins could have been easily eclipsed.
