From his humble beginnings as a WWE mid-carder in 2007 to becoming the face of the company in 2024, Cody Rhodes has seen it all. We have seen Rhodes grow as both a wrestler and a competitor since the start of his journey, and now that he’s close to the two decade mark, many believe that we are currently witnessing the best version of Cody Rhodes.
His promos are excellent, and his pull is massive. Moreover, there aren’t many who can hang with Cody inside the ring. Rhodes is the top babyface in WWE, which means that almost no one can hold a candle to him. But, there are a few wrestlers on the main roster who are cut from a different cloth and could possibly defeat Cody Rhodes in a one on one match. Let’s take a closer look.

SmackDown September 13: Cody Rhodes Retains the WWE Undisputed TitleHere are five WWE Superstars who can defeat Cody Rhodes in a one on one match
1) Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns is arguably the greatest wrestler of all time, so it only makes sense that he is capable of defeating Cody Rhodes in the ring. However, his ranking doesn’t stem from feelings alone, instead it stems from results. Since Cody’s return to WWE back in 2022, no one has defeated and dominated him quite like Roman Reigns.
If Reigns and Cody face each other again, it would surely make for an excellent fixture, and there’s no telling who will come out as the winner. But, one thing is for sure, amongst all active wrestlers, Roman Reigns has the best chance at defeating Cody in a one-on-one match.
2) The Rock Final Boss
The Rock Final Boss was an absolute menace in the ring, just like he was on the mic. Dwayne Johnson is the one of, if not the most dominant force the WWE has ever seen. He has toppled legends like The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Bret Hart, and John Cena. His impressive record over the years is enough to tell us that The Rock is completely capable of defeating Rhodes in a one on one match.
The only reason that this is not a guaranteed win for The Rock is because he is currently in the final phase of his career. Naturally, after a career that has been going for more than two decades, Dwayne Johnson has lost a step or two. So, if he were to take on Cody Rhodes in a one-on-one match it won’t be an automatic win for Dwayne, but it will definitely be close.
3) John Cena
The global impact that John Cena has made has been massive for both him and WWE. He has held the WWE Championship a total of 13 times, which is a record and also a testament to just how strong he is. His gimmick is loved by children and adults alike and over the years, Cena has undergone a ton of growth in the ring becoming stronger and wiser with every match.
Even John Cena has fought and stood his ground against absolute legends like Randy Orton, The Rock, The Undertaker and even Triple H. Cena is one of the most decorated wrestlers still active in WWE and there’s no doubt that he could easily go one-on-one with Cody Rhodes and emerge victorious.
4) Jacob Fatu
Jacob Fatu has been the driving force behind all the success that Solo Sikoa has been able to achieve as the head of Bloodline 2.0. Fatu’s strength transcends the norm and helped him take down Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens during his debut alone. Moreover, Fatu has often overpowered Rhodes in the ring, although it has usually been after Cody is already tired from a match.
Despite this, it has to be said that Jacob Fatu’s strength is no joke, and he has the potential to be one of the best wrestlers in WWE. Taking all of this into consideration, it is definitely not a long shot to imagine Jacob Fatu defeating Cody Rhodes in a one-on-one match. Hopefully, we’ll get to see it happen in the future.
5) Drew McIntyre
The Scottish Warrior, Drew McIntyre, is currently in the middle of an absolutely heated rivalry with CM Punk. The two are set to compete in a Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood 2024. These two have been fighting for months and have been part of numerous PLEs, even headlining a few.
McIntyre is huge in stature and has the strength to match it, which makes him one of the strongest wrestlers in WWE. Moreover, he fought and defeated Cody Rhodes back in February this year. Rhodes has also defeated McIntyre, but all of their matches have been extremely close and could’ve gone either way. All of this makes it clear that Drew has all the tools he needs to defeat the champ in a one-on-one match.
