Amid backlash and threats from ex-WWE star, Ranveer Allahbadia recounts ‘hyper offensive humor’ pitch to Bollywood bigs

Ranveer Allahbadia is in the middle of a firestorm. His controversial question on Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent—a disturbing hypothetical about incest—set the internet ablaze.

Now, his old interviews are resurfacing—including a conversation with Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty, where Allahbadia pushed Bollywood's biggest names to embrace hyper-offensive humor again.

In a recently resurfaced interview, Ranveer Allahbadia sat down with Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty while they were promoting Singham Again. Midway through the conversation, he brought up Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent and called it one of the biggest YouTube stories of 2024.

"Aap India’s Got Latent dekhte ho? Ek naya show hai YouTube par. My friend is Samay Raina. I highly recommend, y'all check it out. Wahan bohot offensive humor daala hai. Hyper offensive. Gaaliyaan, direct offence etc and every person in the country is watching that show, including adults. Chup chup ke. You can end up watching it alone because you can't see it with family. But it's created a, it's probably the story of YouTube in 2024. One show."

His pitch? That India isn’t like the US. That while American audiences take offense easily, Indians are “chill” about edgy humor. He argued that offensive jokes should make a comeback in Bollywood.

"At some point I think yeh so-called offensive humor lautega and then boys like us will be happy."

Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn didn’t push back too hard, but Shetty did acknowledge that a scene from Golmaal 3—where Shreyas Talpade’s stammering character struggles to say a phone number—wouldn’t fly today.

But does India really not care? The FIR, the political involvement, and the absolute internet meltdown suggest otherwise.

Former WWE wrestler Sanga openly threatens Ranveer Allahbadia, tagging India’s biggest politicians for action

Ranveer Allahbadia has made a lot of people angry. But former WWE wrestler Sanga, real name Saurav Gurjar, isn’t just mad—he’s furious.

He posted a video on X (formerly Twitter), calling Allahbadia a “shameless person” and outright threatening him.

"If we do not take action against him for his behavior, then more people like him will say similar things. People like him have crossed all limits. We should take legal action against people like him who are spoiling our society and religion by saying such things, so that the next generation can be saved. The kind of things he has said, I demand the government to take strict action against him. I am very angry right now. I don't want to use foul language. If I meet him anywhere, no one can save him from me for what he said on the show."

And he’s not just ranting. He tagged the biggest political names in the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, and the Director General of Police.

This is no longer just an online controversy. When a former WWE star starts calling for legal action and threatening violence, things get serious.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has quietly unfollowed Allahbadia on Instagram. He hasn’t made a statement, but actions speak louder than words.

And Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar? He’s ordered an investigation into India’s Got Latent and other shows accused of promoting obscenity. A Marathi show called Kandepohe is also under scrutiny.

Ranveer Allahbadia may believe that offensive humor is coming back. But judging by the legal trouble, celebrity backlash, and political involvement, it doesn’t seem like that return is happening anytime soon.

It’s time for humor, purely for the sake of humor, to lose its appeal. As we sink further into the depths of 'offensive humor'—the kind that thrives on diminishing someone’s self-worth, image, or sentiments—it becomes clear that the window to course-correct is rapidly closing.
