This injury took a lot of emotional toll on Punk and the wrestler was in tears backstage since this was absolutely not what he would’ve expected in such a short time after he returned to the ring for action.

While speaking on the Nightcap podcast, Punk opened up about the emotional turmoil he dealt with post sustaining the injury. He stated, “I had a night where, woe is me, I cried about it, I was upset. I had just come back to the WWE after ten years of being gone and was looking forward to doing, you know, just awesome, awesome stuff. And it came to a screeching halt.

As somebody who is active every day, you guys know if you can’t play, if you can’t go to the gym, you lose your mind. And I lost my mind.
I felt bad about it for about eight minutes, had a cry, and then realized that at that moment, it felt like the worst thing that had ever happened to me, so I wanted to do the impossible and flip it and make it the best thing that ever happened to me.”

The impact of this injury resulted in CM Punk being absent from major WWE events like WrestleMania 40 and was away for almost 8 months to get back to the ring. However, as we feel sorrow for the wrestler, Punk is a real life fighter and did not shy away from sharing his recovery progress with his fans on his social media. Post recovery Punk got back on his feet and defeated Drew McIntyre during a bloodthirsty Hell in a Cell match. This hard-fought victory was the greatest comeback after everything he sustained emotionally and physically for months.
