CM Punk Vs Drew Mcintyre: A Bona Fide WWE Rivalry For The Ages

Ask any WWE fan about their favorite rivalry in the last one year, and most of them would answer with Drew Mcintyre versus CM Punk. Such has been the intrigue among fans that this feud has brought with it, that it has captivated fans all across the world for almost an year. After a brilliant showdown at SummerSlam, where Mcintyre went on top, another blockbuster match is on the card between the two former World Champions in a ‘Strap’ match at “Bash in Berlin”.

The Start of the Feud
Ever since CM Punk made his highly anticipated and awaited return to WWE after almost 10 years, Mcintyre has had eyes on him and did not like the ‘Second City Saint’ returning to WWE. When Punk got injured at the Royal Rumble match, Drew aggravated his injury on the next episode of RAW, by attacking his triceps, leaving Punk unfit for almost 5 months, before returning at SummerSlam. Before returning, Punk too cost Drew at least 4 chances to capture the coveted World Heavyweight Championship on different occasions, that included WWE Backlash, Money in the Bank, etc. They fought in a Special Guest Referee match at SummerSlam, with Seth Rollins being the guest referee, where Drew had the upper hand on Punk. he cleverly took advantage of referee Rollins being down and delivered a low blow to tilt the balance in his favor.
Bitterness increases between the two
Interestingly, most of the fans thought that was the culmination of the rivalry, but not to be as Drew has continuously made it personal with Punk, especially after capturing his family bracelet. Mcintyre has bragged about having the bracelet and carried it with him everywhere like a badge of honor, in order to humiliate Punk. In the last few weeks on RAW though, Punk has had some respite as he has continuously beaten Mcintyre with a leather strap. The same Strap will be used vociferously at Bash In Berlin on 31st August, when the two stalwarts collide in a Strap match to settle the scores.
