WWE World Champion Cody Rhodes is currently having a dream run in the company. After defeating Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 40, Rhodes has put up a strong performance in the promotion so far, he’s one of the biggest faces in the company at this point in time.
However, things weren’t really this way for the American Nightmare. As he shared in a recent interview, the superstar didn’t even believe in his own hype up until a point in time.
Cody Rhodes on losing to The Rock but winning the championship at WWE Wrestlemania 40
Speaking on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Cody Rhodes elaborated on the list of events that gave him a new level of confidence, helping him solidify his position amongst his fans.
He said,
“What happened with The Rock at WrestleMania 40 was the ... first time I ever believed in my own hype," Rhodes said. "It was the first time I ever thought, 'Maybe someone from this generation did get over.' ... I tell people all the time, 'Nobody today is over.' Because you hear 'over' all the time and to me, 'over' is [when] you can't step a foot out [of] your house without cameras, without a moment. I just have a loftier opinion of 'over.' John Cena is 'over.'"It would be wrong to say that Rhodes isn’t the face of the company at this point in time. He’s one of the biggest baby faces in the industry and has the crowd behind his back whenever he steps into the ring. Moving forward, Rhodes has a lot of challenges in front of him, and one of the main challenges is the Final Boss, The Rock.
The latter is the most electrifying performer in the ring and is currently 1-0 against Cody Rhodes. It’s clear that the two have unfinished business, but it will be interesting to see when the two go up against each other again.
