One of the biggest feuds coming from the SmackDown brand is between Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. The friends-turned-foes have been going against each other ever since Owens attacked Rhodes at the end of the WWE Bad Blood Premium Live Event, turning heel in the process.

The duo even collided in a championship bout at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event. The conclusion of the bout saw Rhodes pick up a controversial win over Owens. However, KO launched a heinous assault on the champion following the match, nailing him with a devastating Piledriver and fleeing with the classic Winged Eagle WWE Championship.

In an attempt to reclaim the title belt, Owens and Rhodes confronted each other on the December 27 edition of SmackDown. However, the heated circumstances led to GM Nick Aldis make a blockbuster announcement.

Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens are set to collide at the Royal Rumble 2025 event

During the last segment of the December 27 edition of SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis ordered Kevin Owens to return the Winged Eagle WWE title as it did not belong to him or face the consequences. Owens saw it as an op[opportunity to get another title shot, as he believed that Rhodes beat him in a controversial manner and he had the champion beat.

Just as Nick Aldis was about to announce the repercussions for Owens for not returning the title, Cody Rhodes came out to confront his rival. Rhodes made it clear that he did not want the title back but only wanted to beat him again to take it. Furthermore, Rhodes proposed a match where the referee could not stop from laying a beatdown on Kevin Owens.

This led to Cody Rhodes suggesting a ladder match to Nick Aldis between himself and Owens. Aldis made the match official for the 2025 WWE Royal Rumble event with both the Winged Eagle and Undisputed WWE title hung above the ring.

Following that, Owens jumped Rhodes again and left him laying inside the ring. With possibly the final battle approaching between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble next year, it will be interesting to see who will emerge as the final victor of the feud.
