Former WWE ring announcer Lilian Garcia made a special return to
WWE RAW this past May, marking her first appearance on the show in nearly five years. During this one-time appearance, Garcia had the honor of introducing Kofi Kingston and took the opportunity to endorse current
RAW announcer Samantha Irvin. This moment was particularly significant as it highlighted the evolving role of female announcers within WWE.
Garcia recently shared her thoughts on this experience during an episode of "
Busted Open Radio," where she reflected on how the moment came together.
Although Garcia didn't initially intend for the segment to feel like she was passing the torch, she expressed happiness that Irvin received the recognition she deserved.

"It was Triple H who was like, 'I kind of want to put the two of you together to announce this match,'" Garcia explained.
"Something came over me to put her over and it was genuine. People were like, 'It's a passing of the torch moment,' and that's what it became."Interestingly, the day Garcia and Irvin shared the ring was also the first time they had ever met. Garcia recalled how Irvin expressed deep appreciation for the meeting, revealing just how much it meant to her.

"I only met her one time," Garcia said.
"I was visiting and I went to ringside and she was so cute. She was so giddy. She said, 'You don't understand. I grew up watching you. You inspire me and I'm doing this because of you.' I said, 'That's exactly what you're doing right now to the next generation.'"Throughout her RAW appearance, Garcia took to social media to celebrate Irvin and Alicia Taylor, the voice of Smackdown. She shared her excitement for WWE's progression towards having all-female ring announcers, underscoring her support for the future of women in the industry.
WWE NXT Announcer Gets Main Roster Promotion
Alicia Taylor is excited to be part of SmackDown: SmackDown exclusive, May 10, 2024
There were rumours circulating a few months back that there might be changes to the WWE broadcast team. The ring announcer for SmackDown, Mike Rome, is scheduled to make a comeback to NXT to take up his position as ring announcer. This change raised questions regarding who would take Rome's place on the main roster, and it seems like WWE has already decided.
According to
Fightful Select, Alicia Taylor is expected to take over Rome's position. Taylor has been the ring announcer for NXT since 2019, ironically succeeding Rome when he was promoted from NXT to the main roster after his own three-year tenure on the black and gold brand. While it hasn't been confirmed exactly when Taylor will begin her new role, it is anticipated to happen after Saturday's Backlash PLE.
Taylor joined Samantha Irvin as one of WWE's main roster ring announcers. Irvin has been the RAW ring announcer since last year and also handles announcing duties for WWE PLEs. It was unclear whether Irvin will continue her role on RAW while Taylor takes over as the SmackDown ring announcer, or if there will be a switch, with Irvin moving to SmackDown and Taylor taking her place on RAW.
