Alexa Bliss shocked the WWE universe with her shocking return at the 38th annual Royal Rumble 2025 on Saturday. Despite reports of disputes between Bliss and WWE over her return conditions, she stunned everyone with her big appearance at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, replacing fellow WWE star Shotzi.
Shotzi, who last appeared on February 13, 2024, was originally slated to return in the 30-Woman Rumble Royal match, which would have been her first main roster appearance. Unfortunately, she could not compete in the Royal Rumble match due to a long-term absence caused by a torn ACL.
According to reports, fellow competitors in the Women's Royal Rumble Match were unaware of Bliss's participation. Even, she was absent from the match rehearsals held on Friday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Nevertheless, Alexa Bliss turned out to be the biggest surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble match. She entered the women’s match at #21 and enjoyed an entertaining 11-minute run before being eliminated by Liv Morgan.
Previously, Alexa was set to return to WWE on the San Jose-set episode of
Raw last month. But, plans were ultimately scrapped after Bliss and WWE hit a stalemate over her contract, as WWE wanted her to return under her existing deal, while Bliss was pushing for a new agreement.
Alexa Bliss’ surprising comeback after WWE 2023
While it may have been a year since Shotzi last appeared on WWE’s main roster, for Alexa Bliss, it had been two years since she last competed in a WWE match before making her return at this year’s Royal Rumble.
Her previous in-ring appearance was at the 2023 Royal Rumble, where she challenged Bianca Belair for the WWE Raw Women's Championship and had to accept an unfortunate defeat. During her time away, Bliss and her husband, Ryan Cabrera, welcomed their daughter.
Alexa Bliss has an amazing career, having held the WWE Women’s Championship five times—three reigns as Raw Women’s Champion, and two as SmackDown Women’s Champion. Additionally, she has been a three-time Women’s Tag Team Champion, winning twice with Nikki Cross and once alongside Asuka.
As for what’s next, speculation suggests Bliss could be involved with the Wyatt Sick6 upon her return and may be heading to SmackDown, though there's also a chance she could appear on Raw as soon as tonight.
