Jonathan Coachman, also known as “The Coach”, is a WWE personality who made his name in the industry during the Attitude Era, which is often referred to as one of the defining periods of professional wrestling.
Coachman does have a deep understanding of how the wrestling industry functions including the role that most of the promotions play when it comes to uplifting the sector. On a recent podcast, he opened up about the industry, sharing his insights on how he perceives the current scenario to be.
The Coach addresses the professional wrestling landscape and how WWE and AEW fare in it
Speaking on the
Busted Open podcast, Jonathan Coachman didn’t hesitate to speak his mind at all. When asked about the wrestling industry and how WWE was faring in it, he added that the Stamford-based promotion had a lot of star power.
He said,
“All the AEW haters are gonna come out of the woodwork right now. I think the WWE is hot, because of the stars that they have, the storylines that they have. There is no substitution for star power and I think right now in the WWE, you got these gigantic characters. When you look at a place that now are running three nights in a row, running Friday, Saturday, all this stuff. You've gotta be hot to be able to do that."He also addressed the state of the brand new Jacksonville-based promotion and said that it’s hold on the industry isn’t that great just yet, and it has a long way to go.
Coachman also added,
"When I look at AEW, you gotta have a company and talent and people at the top that understand the good and the bad and are willing to talk about it and not just walk by. I was there when it was red hot. I was there when they had 2000 people sitting in the stands. And you gotta be able to kind of get through all of that. And AEW right now, they're just starting that process. WWE is red hot. I don't think AEW is."With AEW fairly new to the scene, it might take them a while to get as popular as WWE is at this point. With the current roster they’ve got, it’s just a matter of time before they make a massive impact and become as hot as WWE is right now.
