What we know of WWE Raw in modern times is not how it has been perceived all the time. WWE Raw has delivered some incredibly shocking and off-putting moments on air which outraged the fans worldwide. From staging a death to a dishonoring marriage, there have been certain moments on one of the most major events of WWE that blurred the line between reality and entertainment. There were ethical lines crossed and these moments gained attention for all the wrong reasons.

#1: Chris Benoit Death Tragedy



In 2007, Chris Benoit regrettably killed his own family and hanged himself two days later, WWE’s handling of the tragedy initially was controversial for several reasons. The company went ahead to give tribute to Benoit on Raw before all the facts came to light. After the disturbing details of the tragedy emerged, WWE was criticized for not doing a thorough background check before airing the tribute.

This decision of WWE was highly criticized by fans worldwide for their lack of decision making ethics on such a tragic matter. As a result, WWE curbed Benoit’s name from all the storylines and references.

#2: Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s Marriage

In 1999, Stephanie McMahon was all set to marry Test. Even after Vince McMahon warned Triple H and DX to stay clear from the wedding, Triple H crashed the wedding and revealed something nobody was expecting. The Game revealed to the Chairman how he drugged his daughter and tied the knot with her in Vegas. This concluded in a contentious segment involving a staged “rape” of sorts that was meant to ignite a controversial feud.

This entire segment received massive outrage from fans since they saw this as a way to promote forced marriage, rape-like undertones, and drugging in storylines. For promoting violence and abuse the storyline crossed all the ethical boundaries.

#3: Staging the death of Vince McMahon




In 2007, WWE mounted a storyline showcasing the death of Vince McMahon in a limo due to an explosion on Raw. The major reason for this storyline to receive massive wrath was that it was aired a few months after Chris Benoit’s death.

The death angle was heavily criticized for its poor timing and insensitive nature. The fans were appalled by the display of such insensitive content with regards to the real-life tragedy that occurred and shocked the wrestling world.
