NEW DELHI: The pro-wrestling world witnessed the seismic return of the "Best in the World," CM Punk, at the Survivor Series WarGames 2023 pay-per-view held at the iconic Allstate Arena. Punk's comeback to WWE, after an almost decade-long hiatus, has sent shockwaves of excitement through the WWE Universe. Having last graced the WWE ring at Royal Rumble 2014, Punk's return has fueled speculation about his next opponent.

Recent developments and backstage whispers suggest that WWE has major plans for a marquee rivalry involving CM Punk and the current heavyweight champion, Seth Rollins.

With the two stars having a history and potential personal grudges, this anticipated clash could extend beyond a single match, promising a long-term storyline.

While Seth Rollins appears to be Punk's initial adversary, previous reports had hinted at a range of potential opponents, including the legendary Stone Cold Steve Austin. Another compelling speculation is a future showdown between CM Punk and the WWE's undisputed universal champion, Roman Reigns.

Roman Reigns, who has held the universal championship for an impressive 1200-plus days, has faced a plethora of formidable opponents, including Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar, LA Knight, Goldberg, John Cena, Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens, among others. His last title defense against LA Knight at Crown Jewel 2023 marked another successful chapter in his dominant reign.

As the WWE Universe eagerly awaits Reigns' return, scheduled for the December 15th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, attention is turning to the Royal Rumble 2024. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), several names are under consideration to challenge Reigns at the Royal Rumble. While Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, and LA Knight are noted as strong contenders "on paper," none are confirmed, and plans could potentially shift.

Following the recent episode of SmackDown, a growing sentiment suggests that Randy Orton is emerging as the front-runner to step into the ring against Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble 2024.
