WWE NXT news: Gauntlet Elimination match set to take place on August 20

Roxanne Perez has been WWE NXT’s Women Champion for a total of 130 days. This is her second reign, making it a combined total of 239 days at the top. Perez defeated Lyra Valkyria at NXT Stand and Deliver 2024 to become the champ. Since then, she has wiped the floor with the competition, racking up a total of 10 title defenses during her second reign.

Now Perez needs a new enemy to take down at NXT No Mercy. Luckily, NXT GM Ava has found six potential opponents for her. On the latest episode of WWE NXT, Ava took the stage and revealed that there would be a Gauntlet Elimination match on the August 20th episode. The winner of this match will decide who gets to face Roxanne Perez for the WWE NXT Women’s Title during the No Mercy PLE.

Ava held a draw for next week’s Gauntlet Elimination match

The Gauntlet Elimination match set for next week is special. Ava wanted to make sure that those who haven’t gotten a shot at the title would get their turn this time around. When the draw started, Ava pulled out three names during the first segment: Wren Sinclair, Adriana Rizzo and last but not least, Sol Ruca.

Wren Sinclair has been on fire lately. Her win at the Great American Bash helped Wren get into the NQCC and also helped Charlie Dempsey land a title match for the Heritage Cup, which he ended up winning. Surely, her presence alone should be enough to take the Gauntlet Elimination match to new heights.

During the second segment, Ava pulled out the names of Jaida Parker, Kendal Grey and Karmen Petrovic. At a single glance, Karmen and Wren Sinclair look like the favorites to win this matchup. However, there is one thing we haven’t covered yet, the order in which the participants will take the ring.


If the contestants are asked to take the ring according to how they’ve been drawn, things automatically get monumentally harder for Wren Sinclair and Adriana Rizzo. Winning a Gauntlet Elimination match is tough enough on its own, but to do it as the first one in the ring is a whole other conversation.

Karmen Petrovic on the other hand, will be counting her lucky stars if the NXT stars are asked to take the ring in the order in which they’ve been drawn. There is going to be a ton of talent inside that gauntlet on August 20, 2024. Whoever ends up winning will have the chance to take on Roxanne Perez at No Mercy.

We could be witnessing the start of Perez’s fall from grace. All of her potential opponents have a lot of hunger and could end up dethroning her at the start of September. It’ll be interesting to see how things play out on WWE NXT next week. Hopefully, the Gauntlet Elimination match delivers on the promise of good entertainment.
