Alexa powered CoWatch could be the smartwatch you've been waiting for
Smartwatches have been slowly gaining traction as the next evolution of portable (or more specifically, wearable) computing. Having everything from fitness tracking capabilities to real-time syncing and notification alerts with smartphones, they indicate exciting times ahead for wearable technology.
If we talk about smartwatch ecosystems today, things are (mostly) restricted to Apple watchOS and Android Wear. But that could change soon with the CoWatch.
Currently running as an Indiegogo campaign, the CoWatch is the first smartwatch powered by Amazon’s Alexa voice recognition technology. It runs on the brand new Cronologics OS.
The CoWatch certainly looks impressive, having a Stainless Steel & Zirconia Ceramic body. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor paired with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB flash memory. The 286 ppi Super AMOLED display lends it a premium appeal, and the company claims up to 32 hours of battery life in Always-ON display mode.
As far as other features are concerned, the CoWatch has the usual array of sensors (e.g. Accelerometer), in addition to a heart rate sensor and vibro motor. The water resistant device can connect with iOS and Android devices, and can even control Bluetooth audio peripherals.
Thanks to its integration with Alexa voice recognition service, you can use vocal commands to have the CoWatch do everything from serving traffic reports to ordering an Uber for you. It’s also perfect for home automation, as it can be used to control smart home devices such as thermostats and door sensors.
The CoWatch is pretty customizable on the software front, with dozens of custom watch faces. And of course, app developers would be able to build apps for the wearable device as well.
With so many innovative features packed into a circular frame that you can wear on your wrist, the CoWatch has all the potential to be the game-changer that wearable computing needs right now. And if you’re certain that this is the smartwatch you’ve been waiting for, you can go ahead and back its Indiegogo campaign to get your hands on one.
