Video platform Vimeo is reportedly laying off a large number of employees globally. The job cuts at US-based Vimeo come shortly after the company’s acquisition by the European tech conglomerate Bending Spoons, which purchased it in an all-cash deal for $1.38 billion in November 2025. Since its founding in 2004, Vimeo has fought to position itself as a premium video hosting platform and an alternative to YouTube. In recent years, the company has expanded into software offerings beyond hosting, such as webinars and other events. Vimeo was previously owned by media holding company IAC, which spun it off as a public company in May 2021.
This is Vimeo's second round of layoffs since September, when the company cut 10% of its full-time workforce in an "effort to ensure focus and efficiency," the company wrote in an SEC filing at the time.
Milan-based Bending Spoons owns a collection of software companies, including Evernote, Meetup and WeTransfer.
According to a report in The Verge, the cutbacks will impact a "large portion" of the company’s total workforce, citing a LinkedIn post from Vimeo’s former VP of Global Brand and Creative Dave Brown, who stated that he, “along with a large portion of the company,” had been “impacted by layoffs.”
What Vimeo's former VP Dave Brown wrote on LinkedIn
In a LinkedIn post, Vimeo’s former VP of Global Brand and Creative Dave Brown shared how he was caught off guard by sudden layoffs. Here's Brown's post:Yesterday, following Vimeo’s recent acquisition by a private equity firm, I learned that I, along with a large portion of the company, was impacted by layoffs.
It’s not the ending any of us would have chosen. Still, the work and relationships we built were real, and something I’m deeply proud of. I’m grateful for the incredibly talented people I had the privilege to work alongside and the global community of storytellers who use Vimeo every day.
Now I’m turning my attention to what’s next.
If you’re looking for a creative leader who believes good taste matters, people come first, and the best work happens when leaders roll up their sleeves and build alongside the team, I’d love to hear from you.
