Donald Trump is back to openly talking about Tesla CEO Elon Musk, says: I wish he would not proceed with his plans to …
Donald Trump has publicly issued fresh remarks about his former supporter, Elon Musk. In a recent radio interview, talking about the Tesla CEO and ex-DOGE chief, the US President said, "He's got 80% super genius, and then 20% he's got some problems. And when he works out the 20%, he'll be great." Trump made these comments on a recent episode of "The Scott Jennings Show" (as reviewed by Business Insider), describing the world’s richest man as a "man of common sense" and a "good man." Trump noted that he had "always liked him," adding that "he went off the reservation and he wished he didn't do it." The US President also stated that he was hopeful that Musk would not proceed with his plans to start a new political party and would instead return to the GOP. “I don't think he has a choice," Trump added.
"What's he gonna do? He's gonna go with the radical left lunatics? They're lunatics,” Trump continued. These comments follow Musk's initial close relationship with Trump, which included supporting his presidential campaign and joining his administration as the de facto head of the White House DOGE office, before he left in May.
In June, Musk’s relationship with Trump went south after the two publicly exchanged heated messages on the social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Truth Social. Musk criticised Trump’s signature tax bill, known as the "Big Beautiful Bill," which was passed earlier this year.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office stated that the law "will result in a net increase in the unified budget deficit totalling $3.4 trillion over the 2025-2034 period, relative to CBO's January 2025 baseline updated to reflect enacted legislation."
Musk referred to Trump and the GOP’s tax plan as a "MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK" and claimed he played a decisive role in Trump’s 2024 presidential election win. "Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate," Musk wrote in a June 5 post on X. "Such ingratitude," he added in another post.
Trump initially threatened to cancel government contracts awarded to Musk’s companies, but later softened his remarks. "Look, I wish him well. You understand? We had a good relationship, and I just wish him well," Trump told reporters in June.
In July, Musk said on X that he intended to form a new political group called the America Party. However, in August, Business Insider reported that Musk had not begun the formal process of establishing the party, despite his announcement. He continued to provide financial support to the GOP.
Prominent MAGA figures, including Vice President JD Vance, have also expressed hopes that Musk will return to the Republican Party, citing his role in Trump’s 2024 election victory and the potential value of maintaining ties with him in upcoming campaigns.
