Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company has now announced that it is joining a new 6G alliance along with major telecom players including Nokia, Softbank and T-Mobile US, aiming to shape the next generation of wireless networks around artificial intelligence. According a report by Bloomberg, Nvidia said that the present 5G networks were designed mainly to connect people through voice and data, but are not capable of supporting the widespread use of AI. “The networks of today simply aren’t ready for the use cases of tomorrow,” said Ronnie Vasishta, head of Nvidia’s telecom business. He argued that in the AI era, networks must deliver intelligence not only for humans but also for machines such as robots and autonomous vehicles.
Telecom standards typically shift every decade, with alliances forming to influence the direction of new generations. Nvidia’s entry into the 6G race underscores how AI is reshaping not just computing but also the infrastructure of global communications.

The AI-centric 6G vision
The alliance plans to build software-driven AI-powered 6G networks that can direct radio to traffic safely and efficiently. Nvidia also stressed that the future networks will require “hundreds of thousands of times” more efficiency due to limited radio spectrum and the explosion of connected devices. Nvidia also envisions radios controlled by general-purpose computers running updatable software with AI routing data traffic dynamically. This open approach, the company said, could lower barriers for startups and new entrants in telecom, potentially creating “new unicorns” in the industry.Strategic Stakes
For Nvidia, the push into 6G is both defensive and opportunistic. Its chips already power AI data centers, but the company wants AI to spread into physical applications — from humanoid robots to self-driving cars. Without wireless networks optimized for AI traffic, Nvidia’s broader vision could stall.Telecom standards typically shift every decade, with alliances forming to influence the direction of new generations.
