Meta-owned WhatsApp allows users to see who viewed their Status updates, but there are still a few workarounds to watch someone’s Status without your name appearing in the viewers list. Some of these methods involve built-in privacy settings, while others involve disconnecting your phone from the internet for a short period of time. Turning off Read Receipts inside WhatsApp settings is one of the easiest and safest methods but users should note that when Read Receipts are off, users will not be able to see who viewed their own Status updates. Here are three different ways you can view WhatsApp Status updates privately.
Method 1: Turn off Read Receipts
This is the simplest and most reliable method.Follow the steps below to view other’s WhatsApp status secretly
- Open WhatsApp on your phone.
- Tap the three-dot menu on Android or Settings on iPhone.
- Go to Privacy.
- Turn off the Read Receipts option.
- Now open and view the Status update.
Note: Keep Read Receipts turned off until the Status disappears after 24 hours. If you turn the option back on earlier, your name may appear in the viewer list.Method 2: Use Airplane Mode
This trick works by opening the Status while your phone is offline.
- Open WhatsApp and wait a few seconds for Status updates to load.
- Turn on Airplane Mode and switch off mobile data or Wi-Fi.
- Open the Status you want to view.
- Completely close WhatsApp afterward.
- Turn Airplane Mode off and reconnect to the internet.
Note: This method works only if WhatsApp was fully closed before reconnecting online.Method 3: Use File Manager on Android phones
- Android devices temporarily save Status photos inside a hidden folder.
- Open the Files app or File Manager.
- Go to Settings inside the app.
- Enable Show hidden system files.
- Navigate to: Internal Storage > WhatsApp > Media > .Statuses
- Open the photos directly from this folder.
Note: This method works mostly for photo Status updates.
