, a video showing abduction of a woman in broad daylight is being shared with the claim that it is from UP.

In this 15-second-long video that has gone viral on social media, two women can be seen walking on a road, when a car suddenly stops by, and a man steps out to forcibly pull one of them inside. The car then speeds away as the second woman tries to rescue her friend.

The video is being circulated across social media platforms.

“Women are being abducted in broad-daylight in UP,” reads the text accompanying the video.

The video is from Karnataka’s Kolar and not UP.

VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYOn observing the video closely, we found a banner with ‘Ugadi; written on it. Ugadi is a festival observed in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka on the first day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra.

Taking a cue from this information, we employed relevant keywords and found Times of India video report published on August 15, 2020, carrying the same video.

Titled ‘Karnataka: Terrifying abduction of a woman in broad daylight caught on cam’, the report mentions that the abduction shown in the video happened in Karnataka’s Kolar.

“A woman was walking down the road with her friend on what seemed like a usual day in Karnataka's Kolar. However, everything changed within a split second when a white car stopped beside her, a man stepped out, lifted the woman up and forced her into the car. Her horrified friend tried to stop them, but the woman was pushed into the car. However, the car sped away,” mentions the report.

The kidnapping was caught on a CCTV camera.

Times Group’s Mirror Now posted a detailed video report of the incident on its YouTube channel on August 16, 2020.


VERDICT
Times Fact Check has found that CCTV footage of a broad-daylight abduction in Karnataka is being falsely shared as that from UP.
