FAKE ALERT: Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah passed off as Varanasi’s riverside

Some Facebook users posted the photo to claim that anti-nationals would call it some foreign country and not Varanasi.

The photo is an aerial view of

Dubai

’s iconic island Palm Jumeirah. It does not show Varanasi.

VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYUsing reverse-image search, we found the original image posted on a traveling portal, which identified the island as Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah.

The image is captioned as ‘Palm Jumeirah Dubai Uae City Cities Buildings Photography’.

Palm Jumeirah is one of the largest man-made archipelago in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, created using land reclamation.

On YouTube, we found several videos showing the aerial view of this island.

Times Fact Check has found that an aerial image of Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah is being passed off as the aerial view of Varanasi on the banks of river Ganga.
