CLAIMScreengrab of a tweet purportedly from United States Vice President-elect
Kamala Harris is being shared to claim that she is the latest world leader to show her support for the farmers’ stir in India.
“We are shocked to see the Indian government’s suppression of farmers protesting new laws which will endanger their livelihood. Instead of using water cannons and
tear gas
, the Indian government needs to engage in open dialogue with farmers,” reads the tweet attributed to Harris.
The screengrab is going viral on Facebook with several influential pages sharing it.

TRUTHThe tweet is fake. Harris didn’t voice her support for the farmers protesting in India.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYAs per the screengrab, the tweet was made on November 28, 2020. We looked up both verified Twitter handles operated by Harris, ie: @KamalaHarris and @SenKamalaHarris, and found no such tweet put out by them.
On November 27, 2020 and December 1, 2020, Harris put out tweets expressing her gratitude towards US farm workers, for working hard to ensure people have food on their table during COVID-19.
The exact same tweet, which has been falsely attributed to Kamala, was made by Canadian member of parliament
Jack Harris
on the same time and date as seen on the screengrab.
It appears that the one who created this fake screengrab, digitally doctored Jack’s tweet by altering his first name, handle and profile photo.
VERDICTTimes Fact Check has found that a screengrab of a fake tweet in the name of Kamala Harris is being circulated to show that she supports farmer’s protests in India.
