FAKE ALERT: No, Obama didn't tweet 'ashamed to shake hands with Modi'

of former US president Barack Obama is being shared to malign PM Narendra Modi.

The tweet carries a photo of Obama and Modi shaking hands and posing for the camera. As per the text accompanying the image, Obama purportedly tweets that he is ashamed to have ever shook hands with Modi.

The screengrab is being shared across social media platforms.

The tweet is fake and digitally manufactured. Obama made no such remarks about Modi.

VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYAs per the screengrab, the tweet was made on December 5. We scoured through the tweets posted by verified handle of Obama on December 5 and found no such tweet.

Further, using ‘Advanced Search’ settings on Twitter, we used keywords from the above tweet to check if Obama made such a tweet on any date. The result did not throw up any such tweet.

Had Obama made such a remark about Modi, it would have made international news. But using simple keywords search, we found no reliable and credible media reports about it.
