CLAIMFacebook user by the name of Dipti Sahu
posted a video in which a woman can be seen getting sexually molested by a group of men. The woman can be heard screaming as her clothes get torn off by men.
The user has claimed that the video is from
Kerala where
Hindu
women are regularly targeted.
The same video was posted on Twitter as well by many with the similar claim.
TRUTHThe video is three years old and from
Andhra Pradesh (AP). It has nothing to do with Kerala.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGYIn reply to the tweet above, a user posted a screenshot of a TOI video to claim that the video is from AP.
On googling the title of this video, we found a video report published on September 26, 2017 by the Times of India.
Titled ‘On cam: Minor girl molested in Hyderabad’, the video has the same visuals as the one posted above in claim. As per the report a minor girl was molested and filmed by her molesters in Prakasam district of Hyderabad.
Using keywords from the report, we found another
report from Times Now dated September 27, 2017.
Titled ‘Shocking: Andhra boy encourages friend to molest girlfriend; films it, circulates video’, the report mentions that Kanigiri police arrested three youths for allegedly sexually assaulting a college student and then circulating a video of the girl's molestation on social media. Shockingly, one of the youth is said to be the victim's lover who allegedly encouraged his friends to molest her.
The accused have been identified as A Karthik, Sai Kumar and Pavan.
VERDICTTimes Fact Check has found that a three year old video from AP has been shared with a false claim that it is from Kerala.
