Telangana’s four per cent Muslim quota hit the headlines on April 23 after Union home minister Amit Shah called the reservations unconstitutional at a public meeting in Chevella, near Hyderabad. He asserted that if the BJP comes to power, these reservations would be scrapped. Currently, the quota is being extended in the education and employment sectors to backward Muslims.
