As Maharashtra's Konkan mango belt stares at whopping 90% loss, farmers say the warning signs were evident the past few years, ranging from intense heatwaves to long winters

The searing heat would indicate that Mumbai’s mango season is well underway, but Hapus (alphonso) lovers may have to contend with exorbitant prices or cheaper ‘imposters’ due to a dire supply shortage for the city’s favourite Ratnagiri Hapus.

In fact, earlier this week, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had to announce financial assistance for Konkan mango and cashew growers, who have been facing up to 90% losses due to the impact of unseasonal weather.
