Redrawn constituencies, targeted evictions, post-CAA politics, and a possible women’s voting bloc, make the state more interesting. And it’s not just BJP vs Congress. Regional parties are biding their time

Assam’s upcoming assembly election will be the first in recent memory to be held in a single phase, for an electorate of 2.5cr people. While delimitation, carried out in 2022-2023, by ECI, retained legislature size at 126 seats, the constituency boundaries were redrawn, and so, it is a newish electoral landscape. The exercise was also criticised by some, for using the 2001 Census as basis for population, instead of 2011 Census.
