Massive saltwater beach pool with fantastic viewsNoteworthy for: This is Vancouver's only public saltwater swimming pool and also Canada's longest.
Word to the wise: If you're after a workout rather than a splash around, head for the special roped-off area away from the kids.
Although Vancouver has many beaches, the ocean itself can be choppy and cold, so the bright sparks over in Kitsilano decided to install this massive, heated outdoor pool right on the beach, with stunning downtown views across English Bay. At 137 metres long, it's nearly three times the size of an Olympic pool with room enough for everyone, even at the height of summer.
There are three different sections - shallow, lanes and deep water - and the lifeguards proactively maintain order. There's also a large sunbathing area and plenty of grassy and sandy areas. It's an ideal place for winding down quietly on a weeknight, maybe after a morning spent strolling Kitsilano's tree-lined streets. Cool kids gather here on Friday evenings before moving on to nearby Kits Point for dinner.
