Just 115 kilometres from Vancouver, Whistler is a five-star resort attracting a mish-mash of local ski pros, celebs and an army of mostly-Antipodean staff who keep the cogs turning. Home to just 10,000 permanent residents, the picturesque resort straddling Whistler and Blackcomb mountains welcomes a whopping two million visitors each year.
The quaint, pedestrian-only "Village" packed with hotels, luxury condos, clubs, bars and restaurants is nestled at the base of Whistler Mountain. Serviced by a complimentary shuttle, the Upper Village houses pricier hotels and the Blackcomb goldola. A few kilometres south on the Sea to Sky Highway, you'll find Creekside, with more hotels, bars and ski lifts.
With more than 8,100 acres of skiable terrain, Whistler is a top winter destination, but when the lakes thaw and ski runs morph into hiking and biking trails, Whistler has much to offer summertime visitors. The Rocky Mountaineer runs a 3.5 hour scenic train service from Vancouver to Whistler. Several bus services also operate from Vancouver's Pacific Central Station and the airport.
