As per a recent update, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has invoked the Epidemic Diseases Act of 1897 in order to impose a total ban on social gatherings involving more than 50 people. Any gathering (social, religious, political etc. in nature) has been banned in the country’s capital city to contain the fast-spreading Coronavirus.
This is also for the protest at Shaheen Bagh, which has been going on since December at Shaheen Bagh.
At the press conference, Kejriwal also said, “We have already shut schools, colleges, swimming pools so far. Today, it has been decided to order gyms, night clubs and spas also to close as a precautionary measure.”
Delhi, as of now, has only seven confirmed cases of Coronavirus, two have recovered and discharged while a 68-year-old woman lost her life last week.
To fight the virus, theaters, schools and local markets have also been shut down till March 31. Shopping malls are being disinfected on a daily basis and hand sanitizers are made available at the mall and shop entrance. Office-goers have been asked to work from home and schools have been shut down till further notice.
