6 Taj Mahal replicas you never knew existed!
The Taj Mahal in Agra is undoubtedly one of the world's most renowned structures. Yet, did you know that replicas of this iconic monument exist across the globe? There are indeed several replicas across the world that bear an uncanny resemblance to the original Taj Mahal in Agra. You can visit these replicas, and pay homage to the timeless beauty and allure of the Taj Mahal, showcasing the global impact of this iconic Indian monument.
Here, we take you on a fascinating journey to discover these replicas:
Taj Mahal of China
Efficient in replicating wonders, China has its version of the Taj Mahal. Set in a theme park in Shenzhen, it is aptly named the ‘Window to the World.’ This park also showcases replicas of other global landmarks, including the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Eiffel Tower.
Taj Arabia, Taj Mahal of Dubai
In the land of opulence and grandeur, Dubai, Taj Arabia stands as a colossal tribute. Approximately four times larger than the original Taj Mahal in Agra, it graces the Mughal Garden area and operates as a 20-storey hotel featuring 350 rooms, shops, and restaurants within its vast 210,000-square-foot expanse.
Royal Pavilion, Brighton, UK
Surprisingly, the United Kingdom has its own rendition of the Taj Mahal. The Royal Pavilion, also known as the Brighton Pavilion, echoes the architectural beauty of the Taj Mahal. Constructed as a seaside retreat for George, Prince of Wales, its design draws inspiration from the 19th-century Indo-Saracenic style prevalent in India.
Taj Mahal of Bangladesh
Located in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, this full-scale replica of the Taj Mahal was conceived by Bangladeshi filmmaker Ahsanullah Moni. Driven by the idea of making the iconic structure accessible to more people, Moni initiated the project in 2008.
Bibi ka Maqbara, Aurangabad
Known as the ‘poor man’s Taj Mahal,’ Bibi ka Maqbara in Aurangabad was commissioned by Prince Azam Khan, Aurangzeb’s son. Erected in memory of his empress-mother Rabia-ud-Daurani, it mirrors the Taj Mahal's charm with its minarets, gardens, and captivating architecture.
Taj Mahal Houseboat, Sausalito, California
Inspired by the Taj Mahal during a visit to India, vineyard entrepreneur Bill Harlan crafted a unique replica – the Taj Mahal Houseboat in Sausalito, California. This floating homage captured the essence of the Taj Mahal and was eventually sold in 2016.
