Bareilly, one of the famous cities in Uttar Pradesh, has finally got its own airport after a long wait of 22 years! The airport was inaugurated by Nand Gopal Nandi, State Civil Aviation Minister, as well as union minister Santosh Gangwar. The flight operations will reportedly kick-off from April 15 onwards.
Bareilly has long been a land of historical significance, and attracts curious visitors. It is believed to be the birthplace of Draupadi, the protagonist of the epic Mahabharata that authored by Rishi Ved Vyasa. Even Gautama Buddha had been to this city in his lifetime. The Jain Tirthankara Parshva is also believed to have attained enlightenment in the city.
Later, the Mughals and the British colonial rulers made Bareilly as one of their bases. From a tourist’s perspective, Bareilly is famous for its mouth-watering food, ancient buildings and shrines, and kohl (soorma). Bareilly is also a manufacturing hub of bamboo furniture.
