The Bengaluru airport, known as Kempegowda International Airport, is looking to improve and expand so as to increase its traffic. The airport that holds 20 million passengers currently is looking to increase this number by 2021.
The airport is already big on sustainability, and almost 67 per cent of the airport’s energy comes from renewable sources. It currently uses sources such as harvested rainwater and treated water for most of its water requirements. Now, according to a spokesperson, the plan is to drive this efficiency by making optimal use of natural light and using treated water in order to reduce dependence on mechanical conditioning. The airport will have PV solar panels so as to generate 4.13 MW of power in phase 1 of the construction.
T2 at the Kempegowda International Airport is also set to match global standards, that translates to the fact that the airport is going to be technology based.
