Bodh Gaya
The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mahabodhi Temple is one of the most sacred places for Buddhists as it marks the spot where Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The temple complex includes the main temple, several smaller stupas, and the revered Bodhi tree. The Great Buddha Statue, standing at 80 feet tall, is an iconic representation of Buddha in meditation pose.
Nalanda
The ancient ruins of Nalanda University are the remnants of one of the world’s oldest universities, which flourished from the 5th to 12th century. The site, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, includes monasteries, temples, and an extensive library that attracted scholars from all over Asia.
