The place holds immense historical and archaeological significance, as a number of temples and sites here find their mention in Hindu scriptures. According to Hindu mythology, Rama, Laxman and Sita spent their exile in the forests surrounding Chitrakoot. Ramghat, Kamadgiri, Bharat Milap Mandir, Sati Anasuya Ashrama, Sphatik Shila, Janaki Kund, Handuman Dhara and Bharat Koop are some of the prime tourist and religious spots in Chitrakoot. Apart from having religious importance, the place is also known for its Ayurvedic and yoga centers, such as Arogyadham.
