The lower town is the modern city that houses several important places of interest like the train station, St. Mary Immaculate of Grace church, Santa Lucia Church, Teatro Donizetti, Palazzo della Provincia, Sala Manzù, Museo Bernareggi and the Città Alta Funicular that connects to the upper town. In fact, as you approach the end of the lower town, you get to see a beautiful view of the upper town and its historic buildings which make for a great photograph showing the diversity of Bergamo. This part of town is teeming with restaurants and shopping spaces, where the youngsters chill. You can walk around the area that is home to some magnificent buildings as well as parks and walkways that make for interesting sights. Something that is not to be missed is the beautiful and vibrantly colourful flowers that dot the pathways here. Walking around this place, I discovered the real local dish of Bergamo. This is the typical Polenta taragna, made from cheese with the yellow corn flour. You can taste several kinds of polenta side dishes made with mushrooms, raw bacon, and rabbit. Also, try the pizzas here – they are huge so a slice will be a great way to try all variants!
