The Union Ministry of Tourism has taken Colva Beach under its ‘Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project’ to develop the region’s infrastructure and tourism. This move was specially taken to encourage tourism-related growth in South Goa.
As per a statement released by the Goa Tourism, Colva Beach will be the only beach along with 11 other tourist destinations spread across the country, which have been selected and brought under the said project to push tourism growth. Some of the prime objectives of this initiative are developing infrastructure and local culture, generating employment, occupation, and work toward beautification of the region, along with providing facilities and public amenities.

Rashmi Verma, Secretary of Ministry of Tourism, stressed that community involvement would be thrust upon in the project and local participation would be appreciated in making the project a success. Referring to this development he said, “Goa is a very important tourism destination and Colva Beach has been selected after taking various factors into consideration. A detailed Master Plan will be drawn up with a holistic approach for developing Colva Beach as Iconic Tourist Site in Goa.”
Colva Beach made it to the prestigious project after various criteria were taken into consideration, such as, tourist footfall, popularity of the location, and connectivity of the place to other tourist hotspots.
