Some of these monuments find a special place on the Indian currency notes. From Kailash Temple to Red Fort, these beautiful monuments are a part of our daily life, and in the most interesting way.
Odisha’s Konark Sun temple on INR 10
The Konark Temple, one of India's most iconic landmarks, is the pride of Odisha. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it stands as an architectural wonder and was historically used as a sundial. The image of this remarkable sun temple is featured on the back of the new INR 10 note, which entered circulation in January 2018.
Maharashtra’s Kailash Temple and Ellora Caves on INR 20
On the reverse side of the INR 20 note, there's a striking image of a pillar from the Kailash Temple. Introduced in 2019, this note draws attention to the Ellora Caves, where the remarkable Kailash Temple is located. Known as the grandest monolithic temple in India, it is an exceptional example of architectural brilliance.
Karnataka’s Hampi on INR 50
You can see the architectural marvels of the erstwhile Vijayanagara Kingdom on the back of the new INR 50 note. This note, which came into circulation in August 2017, features the famous stone chariot from the Vithala Temple Complex in Hampi, one of the area's most recognised monuments.
Gujarat’s Rani ki Vav on INR 100
The new INR 100 note showcases Rani ki Vav, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Patan, Gujarat. Also known as the Queen's Stepwell, this intricately designed structure was built as a memorial to the 11th-century king Bhim Dev I. This currency note was introduced in July 2018.
Madhya Pradesh’s Sanchi Stupa on INR 200
The Sanchi Stupa, an acclaimed Buddhist monument, is situated in Sanchi, Madhya Pradesh. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it carries great historical and religious importance. This remarkable stupa was featured on a currency note introduced in August 2017.
Delhi’s Red Fort on INR 500
The new currency note entered circulation on November 10, 2016. This note features the Red Fort on its reverse side, a highly recognizable and frequently visited monument in India. Situated in Old Delhi, the Red Fort stands out as one of the country's most prominent landmarks.
