A minuscule mountain ridge in heart of Jungfrau region in Switzerland, Schynige Platte is one of the most popular day trip options from Interlaken. A cog railway takes you to its 1970 m terminus station where you can savour some of the best views of Alpine scenery that includes the three pointy peaks of Tuba, Gumihorn and a third without a name. Schynige Platte is therefore quite a favourite with hikers looking to ascend these peaks. A sprawling Alpine garden with as many as 650 species of flora is an added delight of this touristy hub. There is also a Panorama Restaurant serving the best Swiss delicacies in the canton. For a lot of visitors, the train ride to the viewpoint, replete with its wooden benches, wagons and the many reminders of the days of yore, is an attraction in itself.
